“Virtual Sniff-Thru”

forVirtual Sniff-Thru Level 1 (VSTL1)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level 2 (VSTL2)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level 3 (VSTL3)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level Elite (VSTLE)
We all might be in a time of self-isolation, but that does not mean that we cannot still compete for fun and still learn! There WILL be more Nose Work Trials in our future and, of course, even if we are in self-isolation, we all deserve to have a lot of fun!So, let’s keep training, learning, competing and having fun with our dogs!
Please read below to see how Nose Work handlers can participate in a “Virtual Sniff-Thru.” And then, if interested in participating after reading the following, please sign-up below.
WHAT IS THE COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE “VIRTUAL SNIFF-THRU?”
The registration fee to participate in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” is $25.00 USD. All payments must be made through PayPal at an account set up for this purpose.
HOW WILL THIS WORK?
Each competitor participating in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” will have a helper who will set the hides in each of the four elements for that competitor and who will video the competitor as they search in each element. This helper may or may not be competing but, if they are competing, the first competitor will set the hides for the helper in search areas different from those used for the first competitor and the first competitor will video the helper as they search in each of their elements. The “Virtual Sniff-Thru” for each competitor may be run on the same day or on different days.
At registration, each competitor participating in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” will identify the “Virtual Level” in which they will compete and will identify who their helper will be and will supply an email address for that person. The competitor should also state whether the helper is competing in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” and in what “Virtual Level.”
The “Element Parameters,” that describes (1) the type of search areas required for the “Virtual Level” selected; (2) the type of hides which the helper is to set; and (3) the time limit allowed for each element, will be emailed to the competitor’s helper upon registration. A Score Sheet also will be emailed along with the “Element Parameters.”
Please note, that “actual” interior areas will not be tested due to COVID-19 concerns but “simulated” interiors will be used in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru.” Information about the “simulated” interiors will be available in the “Element Parameters” for the “Virtual Level” selected. Once the pandemic issues are resolved, it is anticipated that “actual” interior areas will be added in any future “Virtual Sniff-Thru.” Until then, all CDC guidelines and state and local rules and regulations should be followed at each “Virtual Sniff-Thru.” “Virtual Sniff-Thrus” scheduled on a date when it is rains, or where the weather is not conducive to wearing a mask, should be rescheduled.
The location of the search areas can either be on the competitor’s own property or at a location where the competitor’s dog has never searched. The choice is completely that of the competitor who knows their dog the best. If the location selected for this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” is not on personal property, the search must occur on property on which the competitor and helper are given permission to use or where the public has access and where social-distancing rules are followed. If the competitor and the competitor’s helper are both competing in a “Virtual Sniff-Thru,” different areas of any given location, or even totally different locations, must be used for each “Virtual Sniff-Thru.”
Once the search areas have been selected and the hides placed, a photograph will be taken of each search area. If possible, the locations of the hides should be marked on each photograph. If that is not possible, a hand-drawn map of each search area should be made with the locations of the hides marked on the map. For your convenience, the Score Sheet is designed so that the hand-drawn maps can be placed directly on to the Score Sheet.
Each competitor will work two elements back-to-back and a separate video will be made of the competitor’s dog searching each element. Once the first competitor has finished searching their first two elements, the helper if competing may then work their first two elements while the first competitor makes a separate video of each search. This will be repeated for the last two elements.
All videos made of the various searches should be uploaded onto YouTube. Directions how to upload videos to YouTube will be emailed to each competitor upon registration. You also will have to take a photograph of the completed Score Sheet reflecting the results of each search element as well as any separate hand-drawn maps on which you have marked the location of the various hides if you were not able to mark your photographs or did not add the maps to the Score Sheet.
When you have uploaded all videos to YouTube, the YouTube video links, the photograph of the completed Score Sheet, the marked photographs of each search area or the photographs of the hand-drawn maps showing the locations of the hides must be emailed to Gail at info@virtualworkingdogcenter.com
As the email containing the YouTube video links, the Score Sheet and the marked photographs or the maps is received, we will review these materials.
WHAT SNIFF-THRU LEVELS WILL BE AVAILABLE?
The following “Virtual Sniff-Thru Levels” will be “virtually” available:
Virtual Sniff-Thru Level 1 (VSTL1)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level 2 (VSTL2)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level 3 (VSTL3)Virtual Sniff-Thru Level Elite (VSTLE)
WHAT RULES WILL APPLY?
While this “Virtual Sniff-Thru” is not affiliated with NACSW™, we will follow the current NACSW™ Rules and Guidelines which can be found at www.NACSW.net. Though there has been a delay on the implementation of the new rules that were to go into effect on July 1, 2020, the “Virtual Sniff-Thru” will follow the Rules as amended in order to give handlers, and their dogs, an opportunity to compete under the amended Rules. It is the responsibility of each competitor to read and understand the current NACSW™ Rule book prior to participating in this “Virtual Sniff-Thru.”
WILL OTHERS BE ABLE TO VIEW MY VIDEOS?
A Facebook Group called “Virtual Sniff-Thrus” has been created. The information in this Notice will be placed in the “About” on this Facebook Group and any updates will be available there as well. Any questions about the “Virtual Sniff-Thru” may be asked on this Facebook Group. Upon completion of the “Virtual Sniff-Thru,” the results of the competitors who titled will be listed on this Facebook Group. While the organizers will not be uploading any video onto this Facebook Group, any competitor who wishes to showcase any or all of their searches are more than welcome to do so.
